In my professional work, originality is key when demonstrating honesty, integrity, and personal strengths. As a teacher, musician, artist, and prospective instructional designer, I am a very creative person, which means that I prefer making videos and multimedia from scratch rather than borrowing used sources.

Honesty

When creating content, it is important to adhere to any copyright laws to maintain honesty and to give credit when credit is due, respectively. For example, if I am not using an original or royalty-free image, asking the author for permission to use the source is the first step, and if accepted, citing the author in your work is a must. If in doubt about an image, I refer to the Creative Commons website, which is an American non-profit organization dedicated to make creative works available for the public to use and reproduce (Larson & Lockee, 2020). With files found on CreativeCommons.org, you have the freedom to edit the sources while being assured that you are not violating any copyright laws.

Integrity

Integrity is defined as making the right choices, following ethical practices, and being a personalized role model in your career path. When designing instructional projects, respecting company's policies, being ready to work, leadership, respecting other's opinions, and accountability for your mistakes is essential (Michael Page, 2021). For example, when receiving feedback from an eLearning course or job aid that you created for your company, be accepting of the feedback and redesigning the instructional solution will create a positive environment for both you and your employer. Leadership and readiness to work are also essential to maintaining integrity. Offering innovative ideas and suggestions to colleagues and directors allows your original work to be showcased.

Personal strengths

When designing professional work for instructional design, my adeptness to technology and the visual and performing arts is an advantage. I can adapt to using new software for microlearning, multimedia creation, and eLearning to name a few. Some of my personal favorite instructional design tools include 7taps.com (for microlearning) and easygenerator.com (for eLearning). As someone who is experienced in the arts, I also developed a liking for photography, which comes in handy when deciding on visuals to enhance my projects (or if I want to create my own!).
